AFTER an “out of this world” spring festival in Petersfield, the summer festival will also have an off-world feel.

Organised by Hometown Festivals, the annual Bank Holiday music and market events spread over three days is now a popular must-attend fixture on the town’s calendar.

Joint organiser Steve Jacob said: “The typically English Bank Holiday damp weather didn’t seem to put people off coming to the Spring Festival.

“Over the two nights I think we had the biggest crowds ever for the evening music sessions, it was out of this world, awesome.

“The music was fantastic, and for me the Duran Duran tribute band and Rehab Blues were amazing, but all the bands and singers were great.

“During the daytime I reckon there was the best variety of stalls and entertainments we have ever had.

“The steam traction engines put on a good show, especially when they left down the High Street, and we are thinking about inviting more traction engines next year.

“The animal petting farm was as popular as ever with youngsters and the face painting was superb.”

There is also talk of including comedy acts in next year’s stage show, as well as talking to town centre pubs about putting on bands after the music in The Square finishes each evening at 10pm.

Steve said: “We are always looking at tweaking the festivals, and at new ideas to make them even better.”

But in the immediate future, the Hometown team is now gearing up for the summer festival on the Bank Holiday weekend of August 26-27.

He added: “Members of the UK Garrison from 501st Legion of the Star Wars costuming group will be here.

“We had 15 Star Wars storm troopers, Princess Leia and Darth Vader here before, but this summer we are hoping a lot more will come along, and bring more characters with them.

“There will also be a Star Wars vehicle, may be two, but what they are will be a surprise on the weekend.

“There will also be the popular vintage car show, and lots of attractions, entertainments, stalls and, of course, music.”
