JANE Austen’s most romantic comedy, Persuasion, is being brought to the stage in Winchester next week.

This witty and emotional production will be performed by the award-winning Theatre6 at the Theatre Royal in Jewry Street.

Anne Elliot was young and in love. Swept off her feet by the dashing but poor naval officer, Captain Wentworth, she devastatingly rejects his marriage proposal because of her selfish society-obsessed family. Several years later and Wentworth has returned from sea. Will a chance encounter lead Anne back to her true love or to a life forever alone?

Adapted for the stage by acclaimed playwright Stephanie Dale and directed by Theatre6's award winning Kate McGregor, Persuasion has an original score composed by Maria Haïk Escudero.

Tickets are from £19 to £23 with evening and matinee performances. Visit the website at: www.theatreroyalwinchester.co.uk or call 01962 840440 to book.

A free behind the scenes tour of the theatre is on Saturday, September 15, from 11am-4pm, and for families, Guess How Much I Love You will be performed on September 16 and 17. The opening night of Winchester Jazz Festival is on September 20.
