GARDENERS defied the elements to compete in this year’s Steep Flower Show while the prize-giving ceremony was a family affair.
The number of exhibits at this year’s event was down on 2017 due to the late spring, long hot summer and last-minute downpour.
But the number of exhibitors was up while judges were impressed with their high-quality produce, given the difficult growing conditions.
Steve Amos was awarded The Lewis-Snelgar Bowl for highest total of points in show and this year’s competition was a memorable one for Judy Thompson after she walked off with four trophies.
Her haul included The Denis Clarke Memorial Trophy for best exhibit.
Youngster Kiri Acquah-Storey won two pieces of silverware.
She was presented with the Mrs Newall-Watson Trophy for most points in the children’s section by her grandmother, former chairman and guest of honour, Celia Storey, during the event, which was held at Bedales.
