PUPILS from a school in Steep are in with a chance of winning up to £10,000 if their art work is exhibited at the world renowned Saatchi Gallery.
The youngsters are all members of the art group at Dunhurst School and have entered pieces in the international Saatchi Gallery Art Prize for Schools.
The prize is open to primary, secondary and sixth form schools from around the world and schools can submit artwork from students between the ages of 4 and 18.
Dunhurst pupils, Jake Scott, Amos Wollen, Ollie Duke, Beckett Shepard, Rhiannon Griffiths, Ruben Alexander and Ruby Rose (ages 12-13) have submitted work under the guidance of Head of Art at Dunhurst, Susan Macfarlane.
Susan said: “Great art comes from personal experience and the pupils pursued their own individual passions and interests in creating the work we submitted. I think their work really represents the spirit of Dunhurst, its artistic values and general ethos.”
And members of the art group will also be exhibiting work, in collaboration with the English department, at the ‘Library of Ideas’ exhibition, the Young Gallery, Salisbury, from February 11 to March 4.
Susan said: “We are delighted with the outcomes and would encourage anyone to visit the gallery to see for themselves”.
The top 20 shortlisted art works for the Saatchi Gallery Art Prize for Schools will be exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in May 2017, with winners receiving up to £10,000. The entries can be viewed at: www.saatchigallery.com/schools/prize
