A HARVEST celebration at a Steep school will benefit Ramscote residential home residents and the Petersfield Foodbank.

Head of Bedales pre-prep school Dunannie, Jo Webbern said: “For many years our Harvest celebration has supported the residents at Ramscote and the Petersfield Foodbank and this year we received a bumper amount of donations.

“The children brought in their donations of food in decorated boxes and baskets and really understood the spirit of harvest and giving.”

During the celebration, the children sang songs such as We Plough the Fields and Scatter, demonstrated their new dance skills and recited poetry with an autumnal flavour.

Accompanied by Bella the pygmy goat, Steep vicar, the Reverend John Owen, spoke on the importance of animals.

The event was held against a colourful backdrop of Autumnal arrangements from the garden, created by parents, in combination with the children’s own decorations.

Continuing in its tradition and emphasis on outdoor work, students from across the three Bedales Schools were involved in activities reflecting on the harvest.

Pupils at Bedales Prep School, Dunhurst, planted spring daffodils along the length of the school’s driveway, and the outdoor work department in the senior school baked a huge traditional harvest wheatsheaf loaf for the harvest assembly.
