SUNDAY shoppers will be in for a treat this weekend when the popular Lavant Street Market returns to Petersfield.

It will coincide with the Hampshire Farmers’ Market held on the first Sunday of the month in Petersfield Square.

Organisers Hometown Festivals of Petersfield, hope the combination will create a “fantastic vibe” attracting many more people to the town centre.

Visitors will be able to enjoy live music from local acts, food and drink stalls, children’s activities and shopping from 10am until 3pm.

Steve Jacob, from Hometown Festivals, said: “As well as the array of quality stalls offering a range of hand made products and gifts, quality local produce and items from far and wide, the market will host family entertainment including performances by talented local musicians.”

While the adults enjoy the shopping opportunities, there will also be plenty to keep the children occupied with bouncy castles, face painting and hopefully a real-life fire engine too.

And Farringdon Pets from Chapel Street will be bringing along a variety of animals for the youngsters to meet including a donkey in ‘autumn’ fancy dress.

The twice-yearly event has proved to be a popular addition to the local calendar with the influx of new shoppers providing a boost for the independent stores along Lavant Street, added Steve.

When it was last held in April, the market was a big hit with locals and visitors alike, he said, and organisers have worked closely with local businesses to make sure this Sunday’s event is even better.

He said: “With all this going on, come along and join the fun.”
