A FASHION designer who has created costumes for television’s Strictly Come Dancing stars will be popping up in a Petersfield shop for a week.

Francis Campbell (30), of Old London Road in Rake, has worked on the show for four years, designing and making glamorous outfits for contestants, dancers, and judge Darcy Bussell.

Now, for five days from June 11, he will be displaying his creations in The Petersfield Space pop-up shop in Lavant Street.

He said: “A couple of the outfits worn by Darcy will be on display, and people will be able to come in and see them, and find out about the inspiration behind them.”

They will also be able to commission outfits for any occasion from the bespoke designer, who works out of a small studio in the Making Space creative hub in Leigh Park.

It’s here the costumier also produces garments for films and theatre productions.

He has worked on Disney’s Cinderella, and the Kingsman and the Wonder Woman films, and for the past couple of years he has created outfits for the touring stage production, Remembering Fred.

The music and dance show about Hollywood icon Fred Astaire, stars Strictly professional dancers Janette Manrara and Aljaz Skorjanec. It’s last performance is in Portsmouth’s Guildhall on Bank Holiday Monday.

Francis also designs and makes costumes for the acclaimed Sixties dance show, Rip it Up, which continues to tour.

His lifelong passion for glamorous outfits led him to gain a degree in historical costume and design, and his passion influences his hand made couture creations.

But for the busy designer from Paulsgrove in Portsmouth, who used to live in Shoreditch in London, Rake is an inspiration.

Francis said: “We have a beautiful flat in a lovely area, it’s got so much green, and there isn’t any in Shoreditch, or Paulsgrove. It’s lovely.”
