FORTY string playing students, aged between eight and 18, have been chosen to perform with top class musicians at a one-off workshop and concert in Grayshott.

The talented children have been picked by Hampshire Music Service to attend a one-day study session with the world renowned London Mozart Players (LMP) on Saturday, February 18.

The ‘young strings’ will then join the orchestra in giving a concert that evening at St Luke’s Church in Grayshott, under the banner of the prestigious Grayshott Concerts banner.

The event, entitled ‘Let Our Young Musicians Shine’, is the brainchild of Peter and Vivien Harrison, founders of the Grayshott series of classical music concerts at the 330-seat church, given each year by leading soloists and the LMP, the orchestra-in-residence.

Each student attending has been sponsored by a £50 donation towards the non-profit making enterprise.

Sir Karl Jenkins, acknowledged as the world’s most performed living composer, and patron of Grayshott Concerts, is supporting the young players.

He said:?“I hope that this initial seminar and concert will lead to further youth-focused educational experiences.

“We must encourage ambitious youngsters to develop their skills – the music world always needs rising talent.”

Peter Harrison added:?“This is our most challenging project yet. It’s certainly going to be a thoroughly inspiring event for performers and audience alike.”

Executive director of the LMP Julia Desbruslais said the orchestra was “thrilled” to be working with the young musicians of Hampshire.

Tickets for the concert are free. They are available to book online at www.grayshottconcerts.co.uk
