THE SUCCESS of a new event which turned an East Hampshire church into a blooming marvel has thrilled one of its funders.

The inaugural Privett Flower Show was “genuinely spectacular”, according to district councillor Nick Drew.

The ward member for Privett gave £1,000 from his community pot to the event organised by Teresa Brown and her 40 volunteers. He said: “I’m delighted to have been able to help by offering part of my councillor grant to help get this fantastic new event off the ground.”

Teresa thanked the councillor for his financial support as proceeds from the “truly wonderful” event will go towards church repairs.

She said: “The church looked absolutely lovely and people came from miles around to enjoy it.”

Each district councillor has a budget of £4,500 to support community-based projects. For more details on how to apply for a share visit www.easthants.gov.uk/councillorgrants
