SHOPS, churches and public buildings in Petersfield are highlighting the importance of paying farmers across the world a fair price for their crops as part of the Fairtrade Foundation’s Fairtrade Fortnight.
In the Petersfield Fairtrade Art Shop Trail 2019, which continues until Sunday, works of art based on Fairtrade products, including coffee, tea, bananas and chocolate, are on display at 23 venues across the town.
The artworks were created by schools, clubs and community groups, and as well as highlighting the Fairtrade ethos, they celebrate the tenth anniversay of Petersfield becoming a Fairtrade town.
At the Sue Ryder shop in Lavant Street, a picture showing tea leaves being picked was produced by children aged seven to 11 years old who go to the Hope Church Children’s Craft Club.
Shop manager Judith Nettle said: “I am delighted that we have been asked to participate in Fairtrade Fortnight again this year, and delighted that the children have been such a big part of it.”
