STUNNING Sydney Harbour is the backdrop for the powerful Puccini opera Turandot filmed for audiences around the world.
And opera fans can see the production on screen at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford on Tuesday, September 20, as part of the venue’s Encore film season.
Riccardo Massi, who stars in Turandot on Sydney Harbour, said it was fantastic that the iconic opera house is accessible to people in this way.
“It’s really amazing for me because this will bring opera even to those who don’t have an opera theatre in their town, or those who have never experienced opera before. Turandot on Sydney Harbour is a great set and I think it deserves to be seen.”
He gave a taste of what audiences could expect from the sumptuous show.
“It’s a glorious traditional staging, but with a very strong taste of traditional China. There is also a great dragon there that spits fire,” he enthused.
“Puccini’s operas always deserve to be heard and seen; this one is very spectacular and the staging also has a beautiful view of the Sydney Opera House.”
It was great working with director Chen Shi-Zheng too. “He knows opera singers and respects their view of their characters and the music.”
