TELEVISION problems over Christmas in the Liphook area are continuing, claim, residents.
And they have put forward a number of reasons as to the cause on the Liphook UK community website.
These range from fog and mist, or high pressure, affecting TV reception, to suggestions that the problems could be caused by the local EE 4G mobile phone network.
One resident said: “Every morning from about 7.30am to about 10am we lose all channels on free-view TV and set-top box.
“It’s been going on about 14 days now. Seems everybody gets their mobile phones out and fills the air with chatter, no doubt someone will fathom out the problem.”
When work rolling out the EE 4G network began around 2013, it was predicted that in some areas Free-View TV could be affected, these areas included Surrey and West Sussex.
Liphook sits on the Hampshire / West Sussex border, and is only a couple of miles from the Hampshire border with Surrey.
Residents suffering loss of TV signal, or poor reception, are advised to contact at800.tv, a body set up to ‘fire fight’ television issues caused by the mobile phone network roll out.
On the at800.tv website it advises: “Both 4G mobile services and digital TV use parts of the radio spectrum, that is bands of frequencies, to reach us.
“The 800 MHz frequencies used by some 4G services are next to the frequencies used for Freeview.
“TVs and set-top boxes that receive Freeview may have the service blocked by these 4G mobile signals; there is a very small chance this may cause interference to your Freeview service. Cable and satellite services will not be affected.
“You are more likely be affected if you live close to a new 4G mast, are in an area with weak digital television reception or have a TV signal booster.”
One solution that has benefited some residents are 4G network filters supplied by at800.tv, who has told residents engineers are available to help with their problems.
