Time is running out for people to comment on a scheme that could spell the end for two popular businesses on a cherished lane in Petersfield.
Plans to replace the two Bakery Lane “shacks” housing the Fez café and the Blacksmith’s Daughter with a single-storey retail unit will soon come before a planning inspector.
The proposals were refused early this year by the EHDC planning committee but applicant Heinz Naef has appealed to the inspectorate with the deadline for comments being this Thursday, June 12.
People with an opinion on the scheme have been urged to get writing by the Petersfield Society as they believe the scheme has big ramifications for the town centre.
The group objected to the application citing the loss of historic character within the Petersfield Conservation Area, with the passage often being compared to a smaller version of Brighton’s Lanes.
A spokesperson said: “Once this character is lost it will never be regained.
“And frankly what’s the point in signs pointing people towards the Historic Petersfield town when the history is being eroded.”
The spokesperson added: “Your comment may be the one to make a different, so don’t be shy.
“We encourage you to look at the plan, consider your opinion and urgently email constructive comments to [email protected]
