HAT’S off to Winchester for a fantastic, and mostly free, three-day family fun event.
The annual Hat Fair, which runs from Friday to Sunday, June 30 to July 2, features a host of events – from an Urban Safari in search of humans and a real life version of an arcade game to building a massive structure from sticks.
This all takes place on the city streets on Friday and Saturday, with a giant picnic in Oram’s Arbour on Sunday, where visitors may become the subject of live painting.
Friday and Saturday start with a family rave at The Brooks Shopping Centre, which is the main sponsor for the event also supported by Winchester City Council and Arts Council England.
Twelve classic arcade games have inspired The Actual Reality Arcade, an interactive game zone for all ages.
Theatre includes an encounter about lost love in a specially constructed chamber, and Table Manners, which combines dance and dinner. Classic pop videos will be recreated by The Jukeboxes, with dancing encouraged.
Hat Fair events are mostly free, but some have limited spaces so booking is needed.
