HE MAY not have been well enough to join her on the last leg of her London to Brighton challenge, but Glen Bond was cheering on his daughter.

Clare Bond of Petersfield signed up for the annual bike ride to raise awareness of, and cash for, The Brain Tumour Charity. And she has raised £1,500 so far, with more donations coming in.

Her dad (73), who also lives in the town, and is a retired JCB operator, was diagnosed with an acoustic neuroma, a rare brain tumour, last year.

Fortunately, those tumours are benign, but because of the size and location of Glen’s it could have been life-threatening if not removed.

He underwent the operation in February and is now recovering, after receiving treatment from the neurological team at Southampton General Hospital and from the rehabilitation team at QA Hospital in Portsmouth.

“The Brain Tumour Charity is dedicated to fighting brain tumours on all fronts, through research, awareness and support, to save lives and improve the quality of life for those affected,” said Clare, who works as an office and finance manager for Cyan Solutions Ltd, her brother’s Petersfield company.

“It was one of dad’s goals to join me for the last bit, but he wasn’t well enough. Unfortunately he is in a wheelchair at the moment. Although he is going well, he has a long way to go.

“It’s very slow but all going in the right direction. He is still having physio weekly at Petersfield Hospital and can now walk with a frame. I do have to say the physio team at Petersfield Hospital are amazing.”
