ORGANISERS behind events across East Hampshire and the southern parishes say their shows will still go on this Bank Holiday weekend following the terror attack in Manchester.
A total of 22 people were killed and dozens more injured when suicide bomber Salman Abedi detonated a device he was carrying at the Manchester Arena on Monday evening.
Hampshire Police have been issuing advice to the public since the terror attack on how to stay safe if further attacks take place and they have also been taking measures to ensure the county is as safe as possible but ready to tackle any incidents if they arise.
Officers have made contact with organisers of events planned for the busy Bank Holiday weekend to ensure they have considered the safety aspects of the sites where events are taking place.
The Spring Festival in Petersfield will be going ahead as planned and large crowds are expected to enjoy the entertainments and the hot weather on the town centre’s streets.
A spokesman for Petersfield Festivals, the organisers behind Petersfield’s three day event, said: “Hampshire Police have reviewed our management plan and are confident in our safety policies.
“We have been given advice to continue as planned and we intend to do so.”
It’s also “business as usual” in Denmead this Bank Holiday weekend as Overlord 2017 will take place, as usual, on The Lawns.
“We’ve had the police on site chatting to us today and the show is still taking place,” said John Whiting, press officer for the South’s “premier military spectacular.”
“It’s a going to be a beautiful weekend and my personal feeling is that life goes on, because if you stop doing things you let them win.
“And besides, we’ve probably got more army here than the entire British Army so I think we’ll be okay.”
