HIS CLOTH cap, boundless energy and warm humour won him fans for six decades.

Now the incredible life of the comedy legend Norman Wisdom is being explored in a rollercoaster one-man show.

Wisdom of a Fool, written and acted out by Jack Lane, is on at Guildford’s Yvonne Arnaud Theatre on February 5 and 6.

Follow his journey as Jack Lane takes you behind Norman’s wise-cracking exterior to reveal a tough and lonely upbringing.

He joined the Army, discovered a passion for comedy and began to perfect an act that would go on to shape his unique style.

The world of post-war music hall and variety beckoned and audiences were quick to embrace his manic slapstick routine, catapulting him to stardom in the early 1950s. Silver screen fame followed and his famous cap, ill-fitting suits and classic underdog character led Charlie Chaplin no less to describe him as “my favourite clown”.

But all this came at a price, which the show delves into too.
