A FATAL accident on the A3 has claimed the life of an “amazing” 22-year-old woman as she was driving home from Petersfield where she worked.

Police confirmed yesterday (Tuesday) that Laura Westbrook was the victim of the accident which occurred in the Butser cutting last Thursday evening.

She was an employee of cosmetic manufacturers Whitman’s Laboratories on Bedford Road, Petersfield.

Her mother, Justine Westbrook, said in a heart-felt tribute to her daughter: “Sweet dreams, sleep tight, I love you, good night.”

Laura, of Waterlooville, died of serious injuries after her car overturned on the southbound carriageway a few hundred yards north of the Queen Elizabeth Country Park exit around 11.32pm.

Her white Vauxhall Corsa was involved in an incident with a black Ford Focus but there is no evidence to suggest the two vehicles collided. The driver of the Focus – a 26-year-old man from Portsmouth – was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, being in possession of a class B drug, and for causing death by careless or inconsiderate driving.

He has been bailed by police until December 15 with enquiries ongoing into the late night crash, which resulted in the closure of the A3 for several hours.

The former Purbrook Park School student – described as “the most amazing friend anyone could have wished for” by her close friend Amy Rose in a Facebook tribute –?was pronounced dead at the scene.
