On Sunday, September 27, the church of St John the Evangelist in Langrish resounded with the wonderful tones of the newly-renovated organ.

After 100 years of maintaining the organ here, Henry and Sons of Liverpool removed the organ and renovated it this summer.

More than 70 visitors came to hear the organ recital by Tim Parsons (FRCO) organ scholar from Winchester Cathedral and Chloe Allison sing.

One of the church’s regular pianorganists Charlotte Denby said: "I don’t think the organ knew what had hit it when Tim played!"’

The growling sounds of the bass and the wonderful range of notes and tones reverberated throughout the building. In Rev Jane Ball’s words, "It was truly glorious".

The evening began with welcome drinks outside the main door. The recital included a selection of hymns interspersed with organ recitals from a range of composers such as Bach, Coates, Vaughan Williams, Purcell and Mathias, processional music and singing.

There was an interval of 20 minutes where a donation bar and canapés were served in the church.

The recital then continued until the finale, which was a tribute to the Battle of Britain even though it was the Dam Busters from the composer Coates.

The total raised at the event was £1,150 and the PCC continues to fundraise for the renovation of the organ.

The next event will be the Christmas Fayre at Langrish House on Sunday November 22, starting at 2pm.
