MORE than £8,000 was raised for the Southern Spinal Injuries Trust at a dinner in the Tithe Barn at Ditcham attended by 200 guests.

Guests listened to former BBC correspondent Kate Adie and Chief of the General Staff of the Army General Sir Nicholas Carter discussing the relationship between the media and the armed forces. The guests also joined the ‘conversation’ asking some lively questions, said Southern Spinal Injuries Trust chairman Jeremy Major.

He added: “It was a fascinating evening, and I now have a much better understanding of the delicate relationship between the media and the Army. We were honoured that both Kate and General Carter agreed to give up their valuable time to help the charity. We are also very grateful to everyone who attended, and to those who couldn’t come, but generously donated.

“The money will go towards assisting everyone in the South and South West with a spinal injury by providing specialist equipment and so enabling individuals to have a greater independence and quality of everyday life. I’d also like to thank Jeremy and Margaret Oates who kindly donated their beautiful barn.”
