AN ANTIQUES valuation day will be held at St Mary’s Church in Liss to raise money for a charity which tackles drug addiction in South America.

Novo has set up a community in Bolivia and money raised from the valuation day will go towards this project.

Trevor Childs is a regular at St Mary’s Church in Station Road and is the chairman of the UK board of trustees for Novo.

Trevor said: “I was born in Liss and grew up in Liss.

“I moved back to Liss and have been part of St Mary’s Church for about five years.

“I first got into drug prevention when I was asked to help a drug rehab unit at Yeldall Manor near Reading.

“Yeldall Manor has been going for nearly 40 years and it has a track record of getting people out of addiction.

“I was then asked to be the chairman of the UK board of trustees for Novo.

“Novo aims to build on the Yeldall approach and help the church in developing nations support people in trouble.

“I’ve been to Bolivia a few times and we have set up a drug addict centre there in Santa Cruz. It is a very interesting project.

“We have experienced people in Bolivia who have worked with people on the streets for many years.

“As soon as the drug addict centre is up and running, we will replicate it.

“There are more than ten million people in Bolivia and the most logical next site is also in Bolivia.

“We have two other possible sites in Bolivia which are at least 300 miles away.

“There are also problems in Argentina and drugs is a worldwide problem.”

The antiques valuation day will be held from 11am to 2pm on Wednesday, November 16. The valuer for the charity day is Aubrey Dawson.

Aubrey has appeared on TV in Cash in the Attic, Dickinson’s Real Deal and Flog It!

Entrance to the valuation day is free, but St Mary’s Church will be taking donations for Novo. Refreshments will also be on sale.

“People are free to give what they want at the valuation day,” said Trevor.
