PETERSFIELD Pumpkin Growers Association’s 41st annual competition saw veteran pumpkin grower Andy Anderson, of Liss, scoop the best all round prize.

Mr Anderson, of The Ridings, is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable pumpkin grower, and this year hit the jackpot with his home grown entries, said association secretary Simon Crew.

Each autumn association members gather at the Half Moon pub in Sheet to compare pumpkins.

There they hold the weigh in and measure the entries to see who has grown the biggest and heaviest ones.

And then, after a thorough inspection, they vote for the best all round entry, and best matched pair.

This year Bob Keevil picked up the Heaviest Pumpkin award, with Helen Foy taking second place.

Birgette Atley collected the third place prize, and Alison Carling won the best matched pair with her entries.

Simon added: “There was a good turn out this year with some impressive pumpkins being entered into the competition.

“The best all round pumpkin award as voted for by the members went to Andy Anderson, who has been a keen competitor for some years."
