A DECORATED vice admiral will lead the commemoration service at this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade in Petersfield.

Vice Admiral Sir David Steel is a Deputy Lieutenant of Hampshire, and until March this year was the Second Sea Lord.

The annual parade and service on Sunday, November 8, is organisd by the Petersfield branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL), and starts at 10.15am, with a parade from the Swan Street car park to The Square.

RBL branch chairman retired Royal Navy Commander Clive Lloyd said: “On behalf of the Lord Lieutenant of Hampshire, Sir David will represent the Queen.

“All veterans, legion members or not, are warmly invited to meet in the Swan Street car park at 10am to march to The Square.

“They will join Petersfield Air Training Corps cadets, Churcher’s Combined Service cadets, Scouting and Guiding groups from?Petersfield and the Salvation Army Band.”

Once the parade arrives in The Square, there will be an open air service starting at 10.25am, then at about 10.50am, they will march to the war memorial in High Street, for a short service, including a wreath-laying ceremony, the reading of the Roll of Honour and a two- minute silence, ending with the national anthem.

The central car park will be free during the morning.
