AS CHRISTMAS approaches, Brookham School decided to show the Year 1 children what kind of toys they could have expected to receive in Victorian times.
Firstly, they paid a visit to Milestones Museum, where the children marvelled at all the weird and wonderful toys going back over the decades before they rolled up their sleeves to take part in toy making workshop.
The workshop began by showing the children a variety of toys and letting them discuss and explore the kind of materials they were made from, before they were given a talk to explore the forces used to operate them.
Next, the youngsters excitedly set about making their own toy from start to finish.
This included choosing which toy to make, creating a design for their toy, putting it together using a hand drill, hammer, pliers and glue, and then sanding it down before finally colouring it in.
Despite growing up in an era dominated by plastic and electronic toys, the Brookham children were delighted with the simple wooden Victorian toys they
