A recent meeting in Petersfield hosted by young activists from the Just Stop Oil campaign group saw the audience invited to join the campaign.

Three speakers, all under 29, said all new oil and gas production should be stopped with immediate effect and production of greener more sustainable sources of power, such as wind farms, stepped up.

The speakers, one a former airline pilot, another a former ecologist, gave their view on what needs to happen to save the planet from cataclysmic climate change.

And they were clear in their belief that data from reputable scientists and organisations showing that unless major systemic change in the way we live happens in the next three years climate change would rapidly accelerate to a point of no return.

They also said governments and fuel companies were aware of the data, but ignoring it for the sake of short term gain, wether for profit, or by not making hard decisions in an effort to retain voter popularity, without a care for the consequences.

There is an open to all follow up meeting in the George pub in The Square at 7pm on Monday.
