POST Office customers in South Harting are being asked for their views on a relocation plan.

The Post Office is proposing, following a six week public consultation, to move Harting Post Office in South Harting to the Village Store at North Lane.

It would open there as a ‘local’ style branch with extended opening hours and enhanced services, a spokesman said.

There would be an open plan till at the shop counter instead of a separate screened counter, and services would include manual banking, Transcash, and Royal Mail and Parcelforce Worldwide. Payment by cheque would still be accepted. Opening hours would be the same as the shop – Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 9am to noon. This provided an extra 18 hours and 30 minutes a week of Post Office service, with no lunchtime closing.

Post Office regional manager Will Russell said: “We undderstand how important having a Post Office is to residents in South Harting and we are confident that this new modern Post Office service will meet the needs of the local community.”
