PLANS to provide a “tranquil place” overlooking Buriton war memorial and the village pond have met with support of residents.
After a public consultation, plans by Buriton Parish Council to landscape land owned by the council behind the memorial, and provide a sweeping semi-circular seat, will be acted upon.
A council spokesman said: “The idea is to commemorate all those who contributed to the war effort.
“Scores of people said that it was wonderful, brilliant and excellent.

“For some time this piece of land, in the centre of the village, has been under-used ever since a hedge was planted across it many years ago by the council.
“We will make sure that everything is done sensitively, in quality materials to fit in with this special area.”
The idea for a peaceful area overlooking Buriton village pond, will bring real meaning, and a welcome seat in a tranquil place, to the heart of Buriton, the spokesman added.
The council hopes to have the work completed in time for the 100th anniversary of the armistice in 2018.
