WALKERS celebrating six years of the South Downs National Park (SDNP) travelled in style at a special anniversary event.
A splendid vintage bus was used at the South Downs Vintage Walking Festival, to pick up rail travellers from London, Portsmouth and elsewhere, and take them to the SDNP centre at Midhurst for refreshments and a presentation.
The 54 walkers were then transported to Petworth to hike the seven miles back to Midhurst at the festival event, organised by the Hampshire area of The Ramblers and the National Park Centre, for afternoon tea. Dr Owen Plunkett of Hampshire Ramblers said: “We campaigned for many, many years to create the South Downs National Park so we are delighted to see the fruits of our efforts.”
