HE’S HAD a sizzling career but sausage supremo Nick Harriott of West Meon has hung up his butcher’s apron after 33 years.
Award-winning butcher Nick (59) has retired from Harriotts of West Meon which has been in his family for four generations.
He has been proud to sell quality meat, including his sought-after sausages, to his loyal customers. And 150 of them packed into the Thomas Lord pub in the village for fond farewell drinks.
“The pub was completely packed and it was extremely moving. I had a tear in my eye,” he said.
Some of his customers had been with him since he started at the shop when he was 27. “I?served them for all those years, and have seen their children grow up.”
Harriotts, which he has sold to Ben Sawyer, was originally started up by Nick’s great-grandfather William in Droxford 140 years ago.
Nick learned the trade from his father Brian when the family opened the West Meon shop.
