A MEON Valley theatre group will bring their advent production to Petersfield this Sunday having impressed the town’s vicar.

The Rev William Hughes has been singing the praises of the West Meon Youth Theatre after watching the group perform The Comic Mystery Plays in the village church.

The group agreed to perform the medieval plays in St Peter’s from 5pm this Sunday after being approached by the vicar.

He said: “It’s a great way to end the twelve days of Christmas, and admission is free, with a collection for donations at the door.

“These were performed in West Meon before Christmas, and I was so moved by the combination of the gritty realism of the medieval approach with the modern and fresh script, that I asked them to perform the play in Petersfield.

“This is the only opportunity to see a moving and entertaining performance of a selection of the medieval mystery plays: Adam and Eve, Noah’s flood, the birth of Christ, and finally the massacre of the innocents, a part of the Christmas story we too often avoid.”
