NARNIA author C S Lewis is comfortable in his life as an Oxford don, smug in his beliefs about God and the world, when love unexpectedly comes his way.

Feisty, uninhibited American poet Joy Davidman turns up, offering a sharp contrast to the rigid sensibilities of his male-dominated sphere.

It’s an intriguing prospect and one that award-winning play Shadowlands explores to great acclaims.

This meeting of two very different minds, developing into a feeling of connection and love, is stirring stuff, and this brand new production is being premiered at the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford, from February 18 to 27.

Stephen Boxer (Humans, The Iron Lady, Doctors) leads the cast as C S?Lewis, alongside Tony Slattery (Peter’s Friends, The Crying Game) as Major W?H?Lewis, and Amanda Ryan (The Forsyte Saga, Shameless) as Joy Davidson.

The film version of Shadowlands won Best British Film at the 1994 BAFTAS.

This major stage revival is produced by Birdsong Productions.
