A woman is believed to have died in a road traffic accident in Petersfield town centre this afternoon.

The incident happened at around 2pm at the pelican crossing in Dragon Street, close to the junction with the High Street.

The incident involved an elderly woman and a large earth moving lorry and the woman is believed to have died at the scene of the incident.

Police officers have sealed off the area and have asked shop workers in the street to stay away from windows which overlook the scene.

Town centre traffic is being diverted away from the area by Police.

Investigations into the incident are under way with a tent placed around the scene.
