Woman in Gold (PG) stars Helen Mirren and Ryan Reynolds, and was directed by Simon Curtis.

It is based on the true story of the struggles of Maria Altmann, a Jewish woman in her eighties, to recover the property stolen from her family during the Nazi period.

Central to this story is the iconic painting of her aunt in early 20th century Vienna by Gustav Klimt, ’The Woman in Gold’.

This is a film with many elements: the struggle of an individual against the power of the State; the fight to keep alive the history of brutality and despoliation which marked the Nazi period, and an ever- necessary seeking after justice on behalf of those not able to seek it for themselves.
