AWARD-winning landscape artist Gordon Rushmer, who was born in Petersfield, goes back to his childhood roots for his latest exhibition.
Work inspired by the 1,000 square miles of countryside which lies between the North and South Downs is on show at The Weald and Downland Open Air Museum at Singleton, near Chichester.
A boyhood passion for cycling meant that from an early age Gordon was travelling the byways of the Weald, developing a life-long love of the outdoors. This led to a 40-year career as an artist, and he is now one of the leading traditional land and seascape watercolourists in the UK.
During his recent travels around the Weald, Gordon was accompanied by Chichester-based writer David Holmes, and together they have created an illustrated book of stories about an area that has attracted the attention of poets, writers and artists for centuries.
Window on The Weald is a snapshot of its traditions and cultural heritage the pair discovered.
Gordon Rushmer’s Summer Exhibition runs at the museum until August 14, from 11am to 4pm.
