Much needed work to Heath Road car-park edging has been completed by the Friends of Petersfield Heath volunteers.

Friends chairman David Burstall and his team of four used all the muscle they could muster to move 23 railway sleepers into place to define the edge of the car-park.

The work follows resurfacing work to the car park organised and paid for by Petersfield Town Council, who manage’s the 93 acre heath beauty spot.

Friends of the Heath spokesman Melanie Oxley said: “The car park had a forlorn appearance. It suffered from severe erosion over the years, leading to deep potholes, and the margins had become overgrown with nettles, brambles and bracken.

“The town council also paid for the materials to complete the edging work, including the sleepers, which were supplied by Travis Perkins.”

David added: “The volunteers worked very hard. Moving the sleepers was back-breaking really, but we are finished and very pleased with the result.”
