CATCH the world premiere performance of a new classical work at the Festival Hall on Saturday (October 8) at 7.30pm.

Elegy for cello and orchestra by Jonathan Willcocks has been commissioned for cellist Pavlos Carvalho who is well known to Petersfield audiences, both as a soloist and with his own chamber group, Ensemble Reza.

The work is the centrepiece of the Classical Music Concert by Southern Pro Musica, a highly regarded professional orchestra which performs extensively across the south.

The principal artists at the concert are Pavlos Carvalho, and conductor Jonathan Willcocks.

Also on the programme is Elgar’s Froissart Overture, and his Cello concerto in E minor, as well as Dvorak’s Symphony no 8 in G major.

Elgar’s Cello concerto is widely regarded as the finest concerto written for the instrument, consistently in the top ten of Classic FM’s Hall of Fame.

Tickets are £20 and £15, and £5 for those aged 18 and under, available from the Tourist Information Centre at Petersfield Library.
