Alarm bells will soon be ringing in Hampshire as the line-up for one of the county’s biggest festivals has been confirmed.
The 12th Boomtown Fair should be the most dazzling yet with hip-hop legends Wu-Tang Clan joining The Libertines and Underworld at the top of the bill.
Grime pioneer Kano, reggae legend Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley and funk-disco icons Kool and the Gang are also the line-up for the August 12-16 festival.
This year’s festival has been billed as Chapter 12: New Beginnings and will attract nearly 77,000 revellers to the Matterley Estate, near Alresford.
But anyone who has visited the annual extravaganza will know there is much more to Boomtown than music with organisers combining a diverse line-up with a twisting storyline that develops as the festival proceeds.
This year’s festival will focus on a State of Emergency and will include a multi-stage spectacular show which blends modern-day circus with mind-bending technologies.
Full details will not be released until the festival but revellers can expect a “high-energy, theatrical spectacular or circus and performance” according to organisers.
“Boundary-pushing sound design, technology and special effects will combine to create a 360-degree experience across multiple stages and areas,” added the organisers.
“Curated by Boomtown production and theatrical teams, as well as circus troupes from across the world, the Boomtown story will unfold on an unrivalled scale throughout the five days.”
Revellers can get a taste of things to come from a trailer on Boomtown’s YouTube channel with new acts being frequently added to the bill.
The festival will take place over 27 stages and features an impressive line-up of international superstars and underground legends.
They don’t come much bigger than Wu-Tang Tang with “voice of a generation” Kano and Grammy-winning instrumentalist Mura Masa joining the legendary hip-hop and rap collective on the line-up.
This year’s festival includes a Boomtown debut for East Coast hip-hop legends De La Soul and a set by superstar drum and bass DJ Andy C.
Dance fans shouldn’t miss the chance to see Australian trio Pendulum Trinity while Orbital’s live set, marking 40 years of underground dance, should raise the bar to astronomical heights.
Other artists on the bill include The High Contrast Band, Caravan Palace, Sugarhill Gang & Furious 5, The Four Owls, Dilated Peoples, Too Many Zooz, Biig Piig, My Baby, Flogging Molly, Skindred, Protoje, David Rodigan & the Outlook Orchestra, Collie Buddz, Adrian Sherwood feat. Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry & Horace Andy among many others.
