WIZARDS and warriors, aliens and elves provided a magical evening at East Hampshire Youth Council’s sci-fi and fantasy-themed quiz.

Teams of youngsters from local schools joined the youth councillors and some of their senior counterparts in testing their knowledge.

Participants got into the spirit of the evening, held at the Penns Place council chamber in Petersfield by dressing up as an array of suitable characters and creatures from Dr Who, Harry Potter and the Lord of the Rings.

Teams were entered by the Crossover Youth Centre in Liss, Mill Chase Academy, Bordon, The Petersfield School, Bohunt, in Liphook, and Ditcham Park School, with two teams from East Hampshire Youth Council.

The quiz, in its 19th year, featured brain teasers on everything from politics to sport and also challenged the teams to a dance contest and a sing-a-long to Slade’s Merry Christmas Everybody.

Cllr Julie Butler, Portfolio Holder for Communities, joined in with The Petersfield School team. She said: “It was another great night as a governor of TPS it was great to be part of the team.”

Cllr Thomas Spencer, who joined the Crossover Youth group’s team, said: “The team really welcomed me for what was a very enjoyable evening. Given the young age of some of the crossover team compared to the school groups, we certainly held our own!”

East Hampshire Youth Council’s teams won the day, scooping first and second spot, while third place went to The Petersfield School who also picked up the prize for the sing-a-long. Mill Chase Academy won the dance competition.
