ALRESFORD Town may have secured their place in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division with their efforts on the pitch, but the club's future is under threat.
The Magpies' landlords, New Alresford Town Council, decided to extend the balcony area at Arlebury Park to provide a smoking area for users of the council-run bar on the first floor of the building.
The extension has effectively removed 40 seats from the balcony, and the club no longer have the required number of covered seats to enable compliance with the Step 5 ground grading necessary for the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division.
Club chairman Trevor Ingram raised the matter at a recreation committee meeting in February, where it was proposed that a 50-seater stand be put between the dugouts and tennis courts....
