A busy weekend saw Haslemere Border Athletic Club athletes competing across the country, from road races to challenging trail events.

With many preparing for spring marathons, a half marathon was the ideal test, and the results suggest strong performances ahead in the coming weeks.

The Surrey Half Marathon attracted a strong club turnout, producing excellent results. Adam Wade led the men home in 1:10.53, finishing third in his age category. He was followed by Alistair Rose (1:18.39), James Turner (1:22.53) and Tom Owen (1:27.45).

Lindsay Wade was first female finisher for the club in an impressive 1:33.53, securing a personal best with a strong and controlled run. Gemma Reeder (2:02.42) and Tina Fairminer (2:45.25) completed a strong showing on the day.

Club coach Daniel Allaway tackled the hilly Hastings Half Marathon, finishing in 1:24.26 to take second place in his age group after completing a demanding course through the historic town with undulating terrain and blustery coastal conditions.

On the trails, Philomel Bennett excelled at the challenging Winter’s End Marathon, finishing in 4:33.32 and taking first place in her age category – an impressive 26 minutes ahead of her nearest rival, maintaining a strong pace throughout the testing route.

At the Stansted House Half Marathon, set in the scenic estate, Christina Jenkins ran strongly to finish in 1:51.13, securing third-placed female and continuing her consistent run of performances in recent events.

Not satisfied with one half marathon, Helen Crainey completed three in consecutive weeks, achieving two personal bests. First up was a wet and windy Brighton (2:35.11), followed by Inverness on a bitterly cold day (2:33.28) and finally the warmer weather in Malaga (2:46.23). Crainey showed impressive consistency and determination throughout.
