Haslemere Border Athletics Club (HBAC) member Adam Wade has completed his second backyard ultra of the year.
The concept of a backyard ultra is simple, run 4.167 miles every hour, on the hour, until only one person remains.
Wade completed 27 laps – a total of 112.509 miles – and finished in 18th place to secure a place in the South African team for the world championships. Wade had no support during the race, as wife Lyndsay had been unable to attend.
Elsewhere, a group of HBAC runners took part in the annual Run Wisborough event. The multi-terrain course is a 5km loop along country lanes, starting and finishing on the village green, with an option to run either 5km or 10km on the day.

Opting for the 10km, Yvonne Grayson led the HBAC team home in 58.14, followed by Gemma Reeder in 1:02.44, Peter Surma and Sammy French in 1:06.20, Lorraine in 1:09.47, and Helen Crainey in 1:20.35.
The 5km event saw Annalisa Alexander finish in 31.11 having competed in the South Downs 10km the day before. Next was Nicola Pratt in 42.08 and Caroline Rigby in 44.27.
Several HBAC athletes competed in the South Downs trail races. Tom and Louise Bampton ran the half marathon, which started and finished at Queen Elizabeth Country Park and entailed 1,460ft of elevation. Tom finished in 2:11.56 and Louise in 2:52.54. Annalisa Alexander opted for the 10km and finished in 1:13.31.
A HBAC team of six ran the Endure 24, completing 29 laps between them (144 miles), over a 24-hour period, braving the rain and treacherous overnight conditions. Lari Williams and Sarah Hurford took part running with friends.
