Highfield and Brookham School are celebrating the achievements of Year 8 pupils Olivia Turner and Phoebe Gibbon after they were recognised at the IAPS National Preparatory Schools Athletics Championships.

The championships were held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.

Turner, aged 13 from Churt, won the silver medal in the under-14 high jump, while she and Gibbon, also aged 13 and from Haslemere, were presented with a special award after becoming three-time IAPS National Athletics finalists, an achievement that reflects their consistency and success at the highest level of prep school athletics.

The championships brought together some of the country's strongest young athletes, with seven Highfield and Brookham pupils representing the school after progressing through regional qualifying competitions.

The all-girls squad, made up of pupils from Year 7 and Year 8, reflects a sporting culture at Highfield and Brookham where girls are encouraged to pursue every opportunity available to them.

Highfield and Brookham School headteacher Suzannah Cryer said: “We are incredibly proud of all seven girls who represented Highfield and Brookham at the IAPS National Athletics Championships.

“Reaching the finals is an accomplishment in itself, and every one of them should be proud of what they achieved.

“Olivia's silver medal in the under-14 high jump is a truly outstanding achievement and one that speaks to the dedication she has shown throughout her athletics journey.

“To stand on the podium at a national championship, competing against the very best young athletes in the country, is something very few pupils ever get to experience.

“Olivia and Phoebe qualifying for the finals for three consecutive years is equally remarkable, a true reflection of their consistency over the years.

“Both girls have represented Highfield and Brookham with great determination and sportsmanship throughout their athletics journey.

“We congratulate all of the girls on their fantastic performances and this well-deserved recognition.”
