A BOXING promoter from Buriton is looking forward to putting on his first boxing show tomorrow (Saturday).
Chris Hitching, who used to run a butcher’s in Petersfield and still runs CJ Meats in Havant, is putting on the show at the Mountbatten Centre in Portsmouth.
Chris said: “I’m apprehensive but I’m looking forward to it.
“I work at the butcher’s shop during the day and then I’m on the phone in the evening making sure everything comes together. I don’t have time to watch EastEnders, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
There will be a number of bouts on the night, and the star attraction is set to be Joel McIntyre.
Chris was awarded his boxing promoter’s licence last year, and he said it was a rigorous process.
He said: “I got my licence from the British Boxing Board of Control in July 2017.
“I had to go to London to do my interview and there are so many different facets you have to learn.
“Nine out of ten people don’t get it, but I’ve got my promoters’ licence.”
While Chris is looking forward to his first show, he admits he is in a different league to Eddie Hearn.
Chris added: “Eddie Hearn is in the stratosphere of boxing promoters and I’m in the butcher’s shop.”
Chris is putting on Saturday’s show in association with Scott Welch. Doors open at 5.30pm on Saturday at the Mountbatten Centre.
