Gosport under-14 Falcons 2 Castle United under-14s 4: FOLLOWING their defeat on the opening day Castle United clinched their first win of the new season with an emphatic first-half display in Gosport.

Castle dominated the first 30 minutes of the game and keeper Page had to wait 25 minutes for a touch of the ball. Having created a host of chances United finally took the lead on 18 minutes. A defence-splitting pass from Fin Wilde was delicately chipped home by Sam Acton.

Two minutes later Castle doubled their lead when Riley Griffiths’ persistence forced an error from the Gosport keeper. When the ball broke lose Ben Shepherd hit a left-footed drive from the edge of the box.

Fine play from Summerill, Lee, Redsull, Shepherd and Neale created the opportunity for Acton to score his second and Castle’s third after 23 minutes. The game was as good as won on 28 minutes when skipper James Campbell hammered in after an impressive solo run.

Gosport pulled a goal back in first-half stoppage time and this set up a good second half. Castle keeper Ollie Page made a string of fine saves to ensure that a late strike from Gosport was no more than a consolation for their hard work in a highly competitive second period.
