FIFTY years of motocross action will be celebrated at Langrish over the Bank Holiday weekend.
This Sunday and Monday will see the 50th staging of the Ken Hall Trophy at Manor Farm, one of the best known venues for the sport in Europe.
Over the last half century the venue has hosted five world championship sidecar GPs, 11 British championships and 22 solo and sidecar internationals.
The very first event was staged in 1966 in memory of local rider, Ken Hall. He was a national motocross competitor until he was killed during a race in Dorset.
As this left his wife and young family with no bread winner a local farmer, George Lambert, stepped in to help and created a track so a fundraising race could be held. The Langrish club members have many stories to tell about the last 50 years and these will be recalled at a party on Sunday night.
Past winners of the event have been invited back and they will be telling all their old stories. One of those invited is Nigel Miller, who has ridden every year for the last 50 years.
The celebrations start with a trial at the venue tomorrow (Saturday), run by the Waltham Chase club in memory of club member Alan Samson, who died recently.
Sunday brings a unique team race for Evo machines and qualification races for the Ken Hall event among the races on a busy day.
Monday’s action includes the ACU British Veterans Championship, international sidecar race and the Ken Hall solo contest. For full details visit www.langrishmx.com
