The weather played its part as Brightwell Tennis Club held their club finals day.
The club finals day allows members and their families to socialise, watch tennis and enjoy burgers and cake.
The men’s singles final was the main victim of the heavy rain that delayed the start of the matches – current holder James Chamberlin’s match against junior champion Luca Cimino had to be postponed.
The ladies braved the conditions and have a new champion – 15-year-old Isabella Norman defeated Wendy Poon in a match that contained many long rallies. Norman won the key points to become the youngest winner of an adult singles event at Brightwell.
Cat McKeracher and Caroline Weaver retained their title in the ladies’ doubles, beating Jackie West and Vic Brown in a close match. West and Ben Wiltshire retained their title in the mixed doubles after beating James Chamberlin and Claire Horsnell. Chamberlin and Wiltshire teamed up in the men’s doubles to beat Tom Else and Finley West.
The men’s plate was won by Harry Asprey, who defeated Jude Hinchliff in three sets.
The under-17 singles was a tight final, offering very different styles of play, with Cimino eventually defeating Ryan Housley in three sets.
The under-14 singles was also a close competition, with Alex Thorley beating Lucas Davenport.
The under-11 boys’ singles was won by Edmund Newton, who beat Arthur Gudgen.
In the under-nine singles, Edmund Newton beat Morgan Jones in the boys’ event, and Jemima Gudgen beat Alice Durack in the girls’ event.
