Petersfield and District Angling Club water Nyewood Ponds was the host venue for a charity match that attracted some top and up-and-coming anglers from the south of England, writes club member Shaun Ireland.

The 30-peg event last Saturday, organised by club member Ethan Etherington in aid of the England Disabled Team Association, was sold out and attracted some big names such as Des Shipp, who holds five team England world gold medals, two European gold medals and several silver medals.

Des is also the winner of around nine festivals at Whiteacres and two Parkdean Masters wins.

The event saw the return of two former Petersfield and District Angling Club junior members, Pemb Wrighting and Alex Clements.

Both have gone on to win various titles including England Team gold and individual silver medals and England gold and individual gold medals respectively.

On the day, the weather was not ideal and the weights of caught fish were not up to the normal standards expected, but most anglers managed to land fish.

Up-and-coming star 15-year-old Freddie Bacon (Dorking) produced 16.10lb of silvers and worked extremely hard for it.

Winchester’s Charlie Sibley (30.11lb), an England under-15 bronze medallist, and England disabled team member Ethan Etherington from Midhurst (25.07lb) all put their skills on show to land decent fish.

Section winners:

A – Kris Collins (Waterlooville) 68.04lb.

B – Des Shipp (Bristol) 29.09lb.

C –Andy Jennings (Bracknell) 53.14lb.

D – Ollie Lashmar (Twineham) 71.13lb.
