A YOUNGSTER at Whitehill Archers is the youngest qualified archery coach in Great Britain.

Maia Daborn (16), has just finished her GCSEs at Bohunt School in Liphook.

Maia said: “When I was eight I was at a village fair, and there was a have a go archery stall and I wanted to have a go. I had to wait until I was ten before I could do a beginners course, and I loved it straight away.

“I passed my Level 1 coaching course in April 2016, and I’m hoping to do my Level 2 coaching course.

“I am the youngest qualified coach in Great Britain.

“We have coaching on Wednesday evenings. People can come to me and ask questions, and if I see anything I will go and say.

“I will have been at the club for seven years in October. I’d love to take my archery as far as it can go, although I’m also into my academic work and have just been studying for my GCSEs, which take priority.”

As well as coaching and shooting herself, Maia is also the junior representative at Whitehill Archers.

Maia added: “We have got about ten to 15 junior members, and we would like to expand the junior section.

“Archery is a very inclusive sport and everyone is lovely and super approachable. You can keep improving, and even the Olympic archers have stuff they can improve.”

Whitehill Archers meet just off the A325 Petersfield Road, between Greatham and Whitehill.
