PETERSFIELD Cricket Club have been able to buy equipment to help weather-proof its ground at the Heath.

New covers protect the cricket square and a water soaker has helped remove water from the ground before games and training.

Grants and sponsorship for both of these came from Radian, East Hampshire District Council, Hampshire County Council, Petersfield Town Council and the Paradise Balti House restaurant.

The club also received a practical contribution from its shirt sponsors Agincourt Contractors.

When the season finishes in September, work will start to improve drainage on a corner of the ground that has been prone to flooding over the past few years.

Club chairman James Stratford-Tuke said: “We give our sincere thanks to all of the funders and supporters who have helped make this possible. The covers, water soaker and work to improve the drainage will increase the amount of training sessions and matches that can take place.

“We have also hosted county and district representative matches this season and we will seek to increase the profile of cricket in Petersfield further next season.”
