Purbrook II v Petersfield II: PETERSFIELD skipper Chris Russell won the toss and asked Purbrook to bat first.
Purbrook got off to a purposeful start with openers Dave Cleeve (20) and Colin Pay (79) putting on 37 for the first wicket before Oscar Amis (2-24) made his mark, getting a ball to skid on to bowl Cleeve. Amis then removed James Iles (five).
Josh Young (five) was next to go when he was bowled by Frank Straw (2-15). This left Purbrook 58-3 but a 50-run partnership between Pay and James Barber (14) stopped Petersfield’s momentum before Barber was caught at long-off by Rich Stephens.
Ed Bayliss (2-18) and Nathan Barlow (0-19) kept things tight and Pay was finally out for 79 with the score on 164-7. Purbrook finished on 175-8 off their 45 overs.
The target for Petersfield was set at 168 off 41 overs after a 13-minute rain delay earlier in the day.
Petersfield did not start well with Dave Squires bowled for a duck in the second over. Ben Turk (38) and Jake Hastie (15) steadied the ship against some accurate bowling before Hastie fell with the score on 25.
Rob Walton (two) then mistimed a slower ball to be caught at mid-off. Turk and Marcus Sampson (12) started to rebuild the innings before Sampson was bowled by Jack Hamson (3-23). Russell (11) and Turk continued to rebuild and both were looking comfortable before they fell in successive overs.
This broke the back of Petersfield’s batting with Dave Cleeve (4-14) doing the damage as the visitors were bowled out for 106.
